The District 1 Annual Picnic was held August 15 at Rainbow Park, bringing together neighborhood leaders with Mayor Matt Mahan, Supervisor Susan Ellenberg, Police Captain John Barg and Councilmember Rosemary Kamei.
Discussion focused on housing and the General Plan review, homelessness, public safety and neighborhood initiatives. Much of the neighborhood discussion centered on proposed “Missing Middle” housing policies and preserving opportunities for community input as the City develops possible zoning changes.
Other updates included an 8% reported decline in crime, County homelessness and behavioral-health priorities, and Councilmember Kamei’s proposal for a Westside Alliance of neighborhood associations.
For Baker West, the key issues to watch are the continuing General Plan and housing process, future opportunities for neighborhood participation, and the proposed Westside Alliance.
