Due to the closing of Downtown Street Team, Baker West is taking on a new cause for our Annual Warm Winter Clothing Drive. It is Home First’s Boccardo Reception Center, the largest homeless service center in Santa Clara County.
The BRC provides emergency shelter, transitional housing, mental health counseling and a wide range of other support services for the homeless community. Annette Hancock was our contact with DTST and continues to be our contact with the Reception Center. The needs are similar to what we have collected in the past. Winter coats, sweatshirts and sweatpants and jackets. They don’t have to be new, just clean. But the main emphasis this year is on new warm socks of any color.
As I have always done, I will begin the drive on Saturday, November 1 and end on Saturday, January 3. You can drop off your donations to the red and green bin on my front porch (2041 Elmgrove Lane). If you are unable to drop off, I can pick them up. Call me at 408 379 9773. Also, if you have leftover Halloween candy, it can also be donated to the Boccardo Reception Center. It will be sorted and used for Holiday gift bags for the unhoused. The candy can be placed in the red and green bin along with any clothing.
Thank you, Charleen Marfil (char@bakerwest.org)
