The BWNA used to sponsor a Fourth of July neighborhood celebration. It featured professional entertainers for children, BBQ’d hamburgers, veggie burgers, and hot dogs with all the trimmings and cold drinks were sold at an affordable price as a fundraiser. We used grant funds to pay for this.
A snow cone machine was donated by a local organization which provided a refreshing treat. Games were set up for children to play. Neighbors made desserts and donated them as part of a dessert contest – with the winner getting a prize.
All of this happened for a lot of really good reasons! First, our site was half of Harmony Way, one of our streets in the neighborhood. Next a lot of really dedicated neighbors stepped up to help with planning, buying supplies and food, building and manning these events.
The celebration attracted over a hundred neighbors every year to come together, get to know each other and enjoy the day!
