Dear neighbors, This week, we announced the arrest of three suspects responsible for burglarizing over 70 homes. These suspects didn’t just steal heirlooms and jewelry, they stole a sense of security from the residents of District 1. And that is unacceptable. Your home is your safe space. It’s the place where you spend more than half of your waking hours. It’s where you raise your kids, lay your head to sleep at night, celebrate birthdays and anniversaries. For many of us, it’s our piece of the American Dream. And thanks to our police department, the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office, and collaboration with other local departments, including Campbell PD and Mountain View PD, your homes are safe again. And the people responsible for taking that sense of safety away from you will be held accountable. Thank you for your advocacy over the past several months. Thank you for sharing information with our police department that led to the arrest of these suspects. Together, we’ve been fighting for justice, and together, we’ve finally had success. Roughly 700 items worth approximately $1 million were recovered by law enforcement and will be returned to their rightful owners. We’ll keep you posted as this case develops. Because it is believed that these suspects targeted Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders homes specifically, our District Attorney is pursuing hate crime charges and we will support the DA and his team in their efforts. We hope that you can sleep easier tonight knowing that those responsible are behind bars. Please continue to share your thoughts, concerns and advocacy with us as we work to create a safer city for you and your family. Sincerely, Mayor Matt Mahan Vice Mayor Rosemary Kamei |
